Introducing the Kenya Anglican Women’s Ministry (KAWM)

A New Fellowship Under the Mother’s Union

ACK-Nairobi Diocese has launched an exciting new initiative—the Kenya Anglican Women’s Ministry (KAWM)—a vibrant fellowship designed to empower, evangelize, and unite women under the umbrella of the Mother’s Union (MU). The official presentation introducing this transformative ministry was made at the Third Clergy Chapter by the Diocesan Mothers Union Patron, Mrs. Faith Kabiru, marking a significant milestone in women’s ministry within the Church.

This ministry serves as both a spiritual nurturing ground and a bridge for women to grow into the deeper commitments of the MU.

Purpose and Vision of KAWM

The KAWM has been established with the following key objectives:

  • To evangelize women, bringing them closer to Christ through discipleship and fellowship.
  • To serve as a preparatory fellowship for women aspiring to join the Mother’s Union.
  • To address critical areas of women’s lives, including prayer, parenting, marriage, welfare, and their involvement in the mission outreach initiatives of the church.

Membership and Training

Who Can Join?

  • Open to all baptized and confirmed Anglican women.
  • Current MU members will be automatically admitted into KAWM.

Training Structure

  1. KAWM Admission Training (8 Weeks)
New members undergo an 8-week training program covering foundational Christian teachings, fellowship values, and ministry roles.
  2. MU Enrollment Training (Additional 2 Weeks)
  • After completing KAWM training, women who wish to join the Mother’s Union will undergo a further 2-week specialized training.

This structured approach ensures that women are well-prepared for both KAWM fellowship and deeper MU commitments.

The Way Forward
The rollout of KAWM involves a strategic implementation plan:

  1. Awareness Creation – Parishes will conduct sensitization programs.
  2. Recruitment & Training – Training of Trainers (TOT) in August to prepare facilitators.
  3. Admission Service – An official Bishop-led service will inaugurate new KAWM members.
  4. Refresher Course for Current MU Members – Existing MU members will undergo a refresher before joining KAWM.
  5. Harmonized Collaboration – Clergy, archdeaconry leaders, and parish committees will work together for smooth transitions.

Conclusion: KAWM as a Gateway to MU
The Kenya Anglican Women’s Ministry is not replacing the Mother’s Union but rather strengthening it by providing a structured pathway for women to grow in faith and service.

As presented by Mrs. Faith Kabiru, Diocesan MU President, KAWM will serve as an evangelistic and recruitment arm, while the MU remains the umbrella body for deeper spiritual commitment.

This new ministry promises to revitalize women’s fellowship, ensuring that every woman—whether young, single, married, or widowed—has a place to belong, serve,
