Launch of Constitution Review process

LAUNCH OF THE DIOCESAN CONSTITUTION REVIEW TASKFORCE


The Diocesan Synod in its Special Session Synod meeting held on 19th June,2025 resolved to commence a consultative and inclusive diocesan constitutional review process and mandated the Standing Committee of Synod (SCOS) to appoint a Constitution Review Taskforce to facilitate the development of a reviewed Constitution that is responsive to current realities, aligns with Biblical governance and enables effective mission delivery. Subsequently, SCOS on 28th July 2025, resolved to appoint a constitution review taskforce composed of the members of the Governance Pillar and other experts to be co-opted by the Governance Pillar.
It is in this light that The Bishop on behalf of SCOS, formally has appointed members of the Constitution Review Taskforce and launched the process officially today The 25th November 2025.

Purpose: To undertake a comprehensive review of the Diocesan constitution to ensure it is responsive and effective as governance foundation for the Diocese of Nairobi

Objectives are to:
1. Address gaps, overlaps, and structural deficiencies in governance, administration, and ministry coordination.
2. Promote inclusivity including enhancing the representation of youth, women, and emerging social ministries in leadership structures and decision-making.
3. Strengthen transparency and accountability in line with biblical principles and national legal frameworks.
4. Facilitate the growth and adaptability of the church in areas such as digital ministry, church planting, new fellowships, ministry innovation, and structural expansion.

 
 

5. Align   with the Provincial Constitution and relevant Kenyan laws governing religious institutions.
6. Support a renewed shared vision for the church’s mission, revival, discipleship, and holistic community transformation.

Guiding Principles:
i. The review process will be inclusive and participatory-All sectors, levels, departments and institutions of the Diocese are consulted and engaged
ii. Ordinary parishioners will be empowered through civic education to make effective contributions to the process. 
iii. The process will be open and transparent– Christians will be informed and involved at all stages of the process of Constitution-making. 
The content and process of review will be informed by solid doctrine of the Anglican Faith.
The outcome of the review will be in conformity with the Provincial Constitution

 Chair and Vice -The Diocesan Chancellor will chair the Taskforce and the Vice Chairperson (of opposite gender), shall be elected by the Taskforce during its first meeting.  

Secretariat– the Secretariat of the Taskforce will be domiciled at St. Joseph of Arimathea Parish, but for the purposes of its work, the Taskforce may sit in any parish, place or venue of its choice.

Financing- SCOS will provide for funding of the Constitution review process

Duration- the constitutional review process should be completed within one year of the appointment of the Taskforce
